Other factors have shone that there is another type of liver cancer called liver metastasis. Liver metastasis is when canserous cells originate in one organ then over time migrate over to the liver.Where is the liver located? What is its function? The liver is located below the right lung and under the ribcage, it is know as one of the largest organs in the body. our body is most dependent on the liver because without it we would not survive. Its function in the body including detoxification, synthesizing proteins, breaking down fats, and producing biochemicals that are essential for digestion. |
Risk Factors
A risk factor is anything that affect your chances of getting a disease, such as cancer. Now in liver cancer for the gender males are more likely to get it than females, much of this is because of behaviors affecting some of the risk factors. But in race/ethnicity In the United States, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have the highest rates of liver cancer, followed by American Indians/Alaska Natives and Hispanics/Latinos, African Americans, and whites. This is beacuse in some of these races they are more commenly known to have the risk factor that causes liver cancer, such as hepititas B or C. liver cancer can spread from person to person through sharing contaminated needles (such as in drug use), but that doesn't mean that only drug users can get this cancer. Unprotected sex or child birth can also cause a person to have liver cancer, especially alcohol abuse. And the way these risk factors can cause liver cancer is because they can cause cirrhosis. And cirrhosis is a disease in which liver cells become damaged and are replaced by scar tissue. Its says that if you damage enough liver cells and they become replaced by scar tissue it causes cirrhosis to be irreversible and the that normal cells can become cancer cells because of exstensive damage.
Signs and Symptoms
Abdominal pain usually signifies a very large tumor or widespread involvement of the liver. Additionally, unexplained weight loss or unexplained fevers are warning signs of liver cancer. Other symptoms would be the sudden onset of a complication. For example, the sudden appearance of abdominal fluid and swelling, or yellow color of the skin and eyes. And sometimes during physical examination an enlarged tender liver is a sign of liver cancer.
